There are three types of miniature couplings that are available for attachment on a shaft, namely the setscrew type, clamp type, and keyway type. The setscrew type coupling is low-cost type that features the most conventional attachment. The clamp type coupling becomes clamped on the shaft by the tightening of the socket screws. Attachment and removal is easy, and no shaft damage results. The keyway type, which like the setscrew type features the most conventional attachment, is used for transmitting relatively high torques. Setscrews are applied for preventing shift towards the axial direction.

When the misalignment exceeds allowable values, vibration may result or the life of the coupling may become shortened. Make sure to adjust the alignment accordingly. There are three types of shaft misalignment, namely in terms of eccentricity [errors in parallel alignment], angularity [errors in angular alignment], and end-play [shifts in axial direction].
